Launched: Is There a Mariners Game Today?

I just launched Is There a Mariners Game Today?, a simple website that answers the burning question on the minds of Seattle Mariners fans everywhere.

Big credit and thanks to Laura Forrest and William Reynolds, the original creators of the site Is There a Giants Game Today?. I forked their GitHub project as a starting point and updated it to be Mariners-tastic.

Mobile apps coming soon. :)

Microaggressions.com Redesign

I’ve been a fan of  The Microaggressions Project for some time, and when they put out a call for assistance in redesigning their site, I volunteered. Their site is essentially a blog of user-submitted posts detailing microaggressions, which were described by American psychiatrist Chester M. Pierce as:

brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative racial slights and insults toward people of other races

Microaggressions, however, are not limited to race and can be perpetuated due to gender, sexual orientation and ability as well. It’s an important project, and a revealing one.

Today I launched their new site, and on the surface it looks very similar to their previous one. However, moving from Tumblr to WordPress has given the team a blog separate from the microaggressions posts to discuss other content. The submission and publishing process has also been streamlined (I used and highly recommend the Gravity Forms plugin).

The trickiest part of the redesign was migrating the 2,000+ Tumblr posts over to WordPress. Thankfully there are free tools like Tumblr2WordPress around.

I hope the new platform and site will help The Microaggressions Project grow and reach a broader audience. Check it out if you haven’t already!
